Of Courts and Courting
Traveling beyond enemy borders is no easy feat no matter who you are. It takes some finesse and knowledge and maybe even a generous amount of luck. And if you're trying not to be found? Doubly tricky! But Hild managed. After all, her love life was on the line.
Since their botched wedding, Hild and Krichevskoy went about life much the same way they did before, only now the tensions between their two clans of demons was focused primarily on a third threat: the monsters and lesser demons who had risen up much earlier than anticipated thanks to Hild's secret meddling. And while that meant Hild and Krichevskoy no longer had to get married, it seemed she had less and less time to even spend time with him out of her own free will. War councils and spell preparations, magic training and scouting missions...really, all she wanted to do was sneak away and spend time with...
Pausing under a tree in the forest lining this border of Krichevskoy's kingdom, the cloaked Hild paused and grinned to herself, swept up in the memory of their last encounter. He'd actually kissed her back, which was more than he'd ever done before. Hands to her cheeks, one of the most powerful demons in the universe squirmed in bashfulness as she recalled the event, oblivious to her surroundings.

Hild shut her eyes against the warring emotions of hope and doubt inside her heart. "The next time we are to be together, I will only have it for love. No other reason."

"How strange. I usually have no qualms against such things..."
no subject
"But... if you will forgive a amnesiac man his assumptions, I can only assume this change of manner is due to the love you mentioned before."

"Hillllld-samaaaaa!"
With a sudden crash, Mara exploded into the room from the window. Tripping over her own cape, she rolled several feet before finally crunching into a wall, leaving a Mara-shaped imprint.

He didn't say anything, unless one counted the high-pitched, angry whine escaping from his throat as such.

"Th --ghk-- no...! Not...it! Hild-sama! Dark...!"
Hild dropped Mara to the floor, a snarl on her face. "What? Speak quickly."
Mara, on her hands and knees on the floor, rubbed her throat with a wince. "I-It's the Netherworld...!" She slanted a glance to Krichevskoy, sneering. "This snake's Dark Assembly is in session! I overheard some of the demons at the dimensional gate saying it was about war."
Hild's eyes snapped to Krichevskoy's as Mara continued.
"War with us!"

He shook his head. Obviously it was the Dark Assembly, but... Krichevskoy paced back and forth, wracking his brain to try and remember how the Dark Assembly worked. "Senators... Visiting senators... Bribery..." he muttered frantically under his breath, a hand to his head. He stopped. Anyone could put a bill forth. They just had to win over the senators or be stronger than them. He didn't dare ask where they would get an army. From what Hild had told him, there were plenty who would gladly go into battle.
"Whoever it was who proposed that bill must have been waiting for this moment."

A dark aura emanated from Mara, her red eyes fierce...and filled with unshed tears. "I won't forgive you, snake! You don't know how hard it is to be the one on top, always alone and always with a knife at your throat!" Energy gathered in Mara's hands as she prepared for battle. "I will protect Hild-sama's heart! Prepare to gerk -- !"
Mara suddenly crumpled to the floor, a rather large bump on the back of her head. Hild stood over her, one hand up in a karate chop motion. "Ahhh, shut up, you're so noisy!" She then stepped over the unconscious Mara towards Krichevskoy.
"We'll need to get you back at your castle quickly. If they need to be persuaded by force..." She grinned. "Well, I can be very persuasive."

He took to pacing again, growing more and more agitated as time went on. "They must have planned this!" If he could only figure out who "they" were!

She straightened from the bed and took the more relevant papers off the table, pushing them into Krichevskoy's hands. "Read and educate yourself. I have just the thing for transportation."
Holding her hand out, palm down, Hild stood in the center of the room. A dark hole formed under her hand on the floor, stretching wider. After a few seconds, a bladed edge rose, followed by a long shaft, ending in a wide, mechanical apparatus. It almost appeared like a completely mechanical broom.
"Dragon Flame Death Heart," Hild intoned with a smirk. "You'll be getting two passengers today.
no subject
"How fast will it go?" he asked, also silently noting the lack of seats. This didn't look like it was going to be a very comfortable ride to say the least.
no subject
"Heart-chan has won 8 consecutive broom races in my realm! Worry not, darling. We'll get there faster than you could even read that first page." She hopped on, looking as witchy as one would expect, and waved Krichevskoy over.
"Come on, then~ We have a war to stop!"

"This demon is male," the broom chimed in.
Hild blinked, looking down at the broom in her hands. "Eh? Yes?"
"I suggest he ride side-saddle to prevent pain to his --"
The rest of the broom's sentence was drowned out by Hild's laughter.

It was more awkward with two people on the broom, but Hild was an expert racer and the broom worked with her as if an extension of her body. The speed was not as fast as she would have liked, and she could sense the broom's desire to go faster, but it was important Krichevskoy get as caught up as he could.
His memories were returning, yes, but he was not fully back to normal. He needed more rest, he needed more time, but their enemies wouldn't hold back any longer. And while she, as always, would give her support, it would ultimately be up to him to douse these flames before they spread.
She smiled as they flew through the sky.
It was a good thing she had so much faith in him.

While Krichevskoy managed to get partially through the book, eventually his grip slipped. The book flew from his hand and smacked him in the head, leaving him hanging upside down from the broom by his legs, unconscious for the majority of the trip.
no subject
Not only was he hanging upside down, their trip had also been over rivers of lava, through rocky ravines and dark woods. Leaves and soot marred his appearance, as he had quite literally been dragged back home.
Dismissing her broom back to her realm, Hild lifted Krichevskoy and lightly slapped his face a bit. "Ooooi. Krichevskoy? Wake up, darling, it's time for school~"
no subject
"Are we there? ...Why does something smell like it's burning?"
no subject
Hild arranged her arms in a spellcasting pose with a confident smile. "I'll become your fairy godmother tonight!" She then gestured at Krichevskoy, surrounding him in light.
His minor wounds were healed, his hair combed and even more lustrous. His clothes got a make over. For a final touch, she blew him a kiss, adding some of her power to his in order to re-energize him.

He turned, stared up at the castle, and tried to swallow down his nervousness. He didn't feel prepared, but as long as he could still persuade by force, he hoped everything would be all right. The Overlord was said to be the strongest in the Netherworld, so he should have a fighting chance.
"I should head in. I imagine they will be calling the Assembly to session at any moment." He balled his hands into fists and relaxed them again.

Krichevskoy was vain, often foolish, and so often delegated to comedic relief, but under all of that, there was the heart of a king and the soul of true nobility. Even without his memories, the essence of who he was still shone through. He was always, and forever, a king.
Hild stepped up behind him, placing her hand on his shoulder to turn him towards her. "I cannot join you, but I will be here waiting for you." Always, hung the unspoken word between them.
She then pressed her lips to his in a passionate kiss, all her love and belief in him infused in the act. After a few seconds, she stepped away and gave him a bright grin.
"Win this one for us, will you? I'd hate for us to go to war~♥"
